Slaves

Original sin seems so foreign.  I didn’t commit it, why should it affect me?  We’re even ready to judge God on the matter.  “I’m not in Adam!  I’m on my own — a free agent!”  Yet we’re uncomfortable with this too — as we should be, since God does not say we’re free agents.  He says in Adam all died.

I listened to a sermon yesterday where the pastor stated that “we were born into captivity”.

Aha!

Adam became a slave (to sin).  Thus all his children are born in slavery.  The children of a slave are the property of the slave’s master.

We already need a Redeemer when we’re born, not just when we commit our first sin.
