In our generation we are too cavalier about getting into debt. We should consider that debt is a form of slavery and that God is not silent concerning this…

Right after the famous verse, “Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it” (which everyone quotes) is this one (which no one quotes):

The rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.
– Proverbs 22:7

And in the New Testament the Holy Spirit through the apostle says,

Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called. Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that. For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave. You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. – 1 Corinthians 7:20-23

We shouldn’t so easily sell ourselves into slavery.
